About the Artist

Pallavi Singh (b. 1988) is a visual artist based in New Delhi. She completed her Master’s in Fine Art (Painting) from the College of Art, Delhi in 2011. Working primarily with painting, her research-based practice engages society as a social laboratory—drawing on observation, travel, conversations, and personal experiences to initiate her inquiries. Singh’s work investigates shifting ideals of masculinity, particularly in the context of post-liberalization India. She explores how commercialization and the rise of the grooming industry have redefined traditional notions of the alpha male. Her chosen focus on the male subject challenges conventional gender roles and seeks to deconstruct culturally embedded ideas of beauty, which have historically been feminized. Her practice examines how metrosexual identities have emerged, shaped by market forces and consumer culture, and how they contribute to broader reconfigurations of gendered aesthetics. Referencing the Renaissance while reflecting on contemporary shifts, Singh presents masculinity through the lens of self-care—disrupting binaries and recasting grooming as a gender-neutral space. She is the recipient of several fellowships, including the Vermont Studio Center Award (2019), the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship (Skowhegan, 2015), and WADe Asia Art Award. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and residencies in India and abroad. Singh currently lives in New Delhi, India.
